VAT Exemption for Metro Rail

Industry: Logistics, Logistics & Shipping

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced a VAT exemption for the metro rail system until next year. This decision grants a full exemption from the current 15% VAT until June 30, 2024, as confirmed by NBR sources. The rationale behind this exemption is the metro rail’s current lack of popularity, resulting in lower profitability. Furthermore, considering it as a public service, the NBR has taken this step to facilitate its accessibility and affordability. By exempting the VAT, the NBR aims to encourage more people to utilize the metro rail and experience its benefits. This decision aligns with the government’s efforts to promote efficient and sustainable public transportation systems for the convenience of the public. The VAT exemption will contribute to making the metro rail a cost-effective and attractive mode of transportation in the country.
