Vegetable and Fish Prices Rise in Capital

Prices of all kinds of vegetables increased by Tk10 to 20 per kg, while fish prices rose by Tk20 to 50 per kg in kitchen markets of the capital. For instance, green chili is being sold at Tk180-220 per kg, beans at Tk200 per kg, eggplants at Tk80-90 per kg, and tomatoes at Tk120-180 per kg. The reasons cited for these price hikes include damage to vegetable fields due to rains and floods, resulting in decreased supply, as well as increased transportation and labor costs.

Essential goods like onions and garlic are also more expensive, with local onions at Tk90-95 per kg, imported onions at Tk70-80 per kg, imported garlic at Tk240-260 per kg, and local garlic at Tk220 per kg. Ginger prices have also risen, with imported ginger at Tk240-260 per kg and locally produced ginger at Tk180-200 per kg.

Fish prices have seen a surge as well, with hilsha fish being sold at Tk350 per piece (450 grams), Tk1800-2000 per kg (1.0 kg plus), and Tk900-1000 per piece (700-800 grams) at Karwan Bazar fish market.

In addition to vegetables and fish, other essential items like edible oil, rice, sugar, and lentils have also experienced price increases. These price hikes are causing frustration among consumers, particularly those with fixed incomes.
