Once again, late autumn rain has led to a surge in vegetable prices in Dhaka, with prices rising by Tk 20 to 40 per kg. Vegetables such as eggplants, long brinjals, and green chilies are now being sold at Tk 80 to Tk 120 per kg. The heavy rain damaged fields in areas like Dhaka, Narsingdi, Gazipur, causing a shortage in supply.
Wholesale traders report a significant decrease in vegetable-loaded trucks, exacerbating the price increase. Other commodities, including onions, garlic, and ginger, have also seen price hikes. Fish prices have risen by Tk 40 to 80 per kg due to a government ban on Hilsa catching. Additionally, beef is selling at Tk 780 to 800 per kg, mutton at Tk 1,150 to Tk 1,180, and broiler chicken at Tk 180 to 200 per kg. These price fluctuations pose challenges for middle and lower-income consumers.
