The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) is providing emergency assistance to communities affected by severe flooding in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts in northeast Bangladesh. WFP’s Sylhet Field Office began distributing fortified biscuits to over 23,000 families to support the government’s relief efforts and address immediate food and nutritional needs. The floods, resulting from heavy rainfall in Bangladesh and upstream India, have impacted approximately 1.4 million people. The food distribution, conducted in partnership with local NGOs Friends In Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB) and the Center for Natural Resource Studies (CNRS), is part of WFP’s effort to aid the most vulnerable families. Following this distribution, WFP plans to continue its response with cash assistance for these 23,000 households and an additional 48,000 households identified as part of its preparedness efforts.
