The World Bank has approved a $280 million loan for the Chattogram Water Supply Improvement Project (CWSIP), aimed at enhancing safe, climate-resilient water supply and sanitation in Chattogram city. Signed on 10 May 2024, the agreement between Bangladesh’s Economic Relations Division and the World Bank outlines a project to improve water access and sanitation, while also boosting the performance and financial sustainability of Chattogram Wasa. The loan is divided into $140 million with a 12-year repayment term and interest-free, and another $140 million through the World Bank’s Scale-up Window, offering a 35-year term with a low interest rate. The project, set for completion by 31 December 2030, reflects the deepening partnership between Bangladesh and the World Bank in addressing critical infrastructure needs.
