The government has appointed Zakir Ahmed Khan as the chairman of the Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), Bangladesh’s leading microcredit funding agency. His three-year term begins from his assumption of the role, as announced by the Financial Institutions Division on August 28. Zakir Ahmed holds an MA in Economics from the University of Dhaka, an MBA from Vrije University in Brussels, and has studied Development Economics and Administration at Colorado State University as a Hubert Humphrey Fellow. His career includes serving as a Research Associate at the Bureau of Economic Research, a lecturer in Economics at Dhaka University, and a part-time lecturer in Finance. He joined the Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service in 1970 and retired from the World Bank in February 2009, where he was an alternate executive director for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Sri Lanka. He also held key positions as finance secretary, Internal Resources Division secretary, and National Board of Revenue chairman for about five years.
