Bangladesh has nearly fulfilled all but one quantitative target set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for December 2023 to qualify for the third tranche of the $4.7 billion loan. The country fell short of the minimum net international reserves (NIR) target by $58 million, standing at $17.72 billion instead of the required $17.78 billion. Despite this, the IMF board previously authorized the second installment of $681 million. The review mission for the third installment is expected in March, with potential waivers considered. Bangladesh has met targets for tax revenue and other quantitative goals, including external payment arrears, reserve money, social spending, and capital investment. Structural conditions include adopting a periodic formula-based price adjustment mechanism for petroleum products. The third installment is likely in May.
