Bangladesh is potentially set to receive a $1.08 billion loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The Ministry of Finance aims to present a $400 million loan proposal to the ADB board on December 12, 2023, while the IMF board will decide on a $681 million loan, the second tranche of a $4.7 billion loan, on the same day.
If both proposals are approved, the funds could bolster Bangladesh’s forex reserves, alleviating foreign exchange shortages impacting import bill payments and meeting the financial needs of citizens abroad for education and healthcare. This development is crucial for addressing economic challenges and sustaining currency stability.
