In the current fiscal year, foreign debt disbursements increased compared to the previous year. However, a significant portion, approximately 44%, went towards repaying previous loans, marking a 24.36% increase. The economic crisis has intensified the burden of interest payments, which have risen by over 42% year-on-year. In the first 11 months, Bangladesh received $7.02 billion in foreign loans and grants, with $3.07 billion used for debt repayment. The devaluation of the taka against the dollar exacerbates this increase in debt repayment. The government repaid loans totaling 338.97 billion taka, a substantial increase from the previous year. Bangladesh has secured higher loan commitments from international donors, totaling nearly $8 billion to manage this. The rising costs and stringent international loan conditions add to the economic challenges. The government is also seeking budget support to alleviate the financial strain.
