In the upcoming fiscal year 2024-25, although the size of the development budget hasn’t seen a significant increase, there’s a notable rise in the target for foreign debt concession. The government has set a foreign debt waiver target of Tk 1 lakh crore for the next fiscal year, reflecting a 6.38 % increase compared to the foreign component of the original Annual Development Programme (ADP) of the current fiscal year and a 20 % increase over the revised ADP. This information comes from sources within the Department of Economic Relations of the Ministry of Finance.

In the current financial year’s development budget, where the target stands at Tk 94 thousand crore, it’s being raised to Tk 1 lakh crore in the next financial year. However, due to the inability to spend according to the target, the revised budget has seen a reduction of Tk 10.5 thousand crore to Tk 83 thousand 500 crores.
