Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed announced that the government anticipates around $6 billion in commitments from development partners, including the World Bank and IMF, by next June. This follows discussions in Washington with various financial institutions. An IMF Mission arrived in Dhaka to assess the conditions for releasing the fourth tranche of a $4.7 billion loan agreement, with $1.11 billion expected soon. The review will focus on revenue, fiscal deficit, growth, and inflation, alongside banking reforms and economic stability. Dr. Salehuddin stressed the need for foreign funding for ongoing reform initiatives. Despite current liquidity support requirements, he noted that the foreign exchange rate is stable, remittance and export growth remain strong, and imports are lower. The government aims to attract investments and improve the business environment. The IMF Mission will stay in Bangladesh until December 17 to continue discussions on these issues and future funding possibilities.
